XTS2500 Side/Top Button Issue
Hello,
I own a Panter88 constructed XTS2500 VHF FPP.
Model: H46KDH9PW7BN
Flash: 120001-000100-4
Firmware: R11.00.01
DSP: R11.00.00
Software: Astro Portable CPS R12.00.00
I am aware of "what I got into" purchasing this radio, but it was purchased for amateur radio use and monitoring of area P25 communications and it has worked dandy for me.
Recently however, the three side buttons and top button have stopped working. The remainder of the radio's functions work fine. PTT button works fine, all front buttons work fine, top switch works fine.
I tried loading an older codeplug which made no difference. I have even tried different batteries and battery eliminators for the heck of it and as expected those did not make a difference.
Is it conceivable that all four of these buttons could fail simultaneously? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks very much in advance.

Reseat the flex cable and see if that clears it up

Agreed. If not its probably a bad flex. In the 4 panter xts2500's I've had i did have two with flex issues. One reseating fixed and its working great still, the second I just swapped covers.escomm wrote:Reseat the flex cable and see if that clears it up

- What radios do you own?: XTS2500, XTS5000, and MTS2000

Thank you gentlemen. I ordered the chassis tool today from my Motorola contact. I'll report back with the results. I appreciate the response.

A flathead screwdriver will work in the meantime

I'm not sure how much re-seating the flex's is going to help you with the side buttons on a 2500 platform... Unlike the XTS5K, the XTS2500's side buttons each have an individual button pot attached to the main board.. None of which are controlled by a flex.. The front housing side buttons just push on the internal button pots. Even the volume and channel selector are affixed to the main board, and are not flex controlled like the XTS5K's are.. Inside that 2500 M3 you'll have 3 flex's, one for the speaker assembly, one for the keypad, and one for the display..

Stupidity creates job security!
If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..
CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

Doh thats right. They are microswitches on the board.
Re: XTS2500 Side/Top Button Issue
I had a problem like this with an XTS2500 also.
Testing the radio with the cover removed established that the switches actually worked. As I recall, I reseated the buttons and after a few attempts it started working again. It seemed that the travel on the buttons wasn't quite enough to activate the switches. I wasn't able to figure out exactly why this was happening, but after I played with them for a while, they started to work. I was about to order a new housing, but it turned out that this wasn't necessary.
Good luck.
