First thank you in advance for any responses!

WE are trying to set up the L3198 (Paradyne 3811),ZA00083AA (Paradyne 3811A),
ZA00082AA (Paradyne 3000), L3170 (Paradyne 3810SA), DDN6085 (Paradyne 3811 V.34) & L3174
(Paradyne 3810S/A v.34 Protocol)

As I have NO previous experience with these Paradyne Modems...

We need to try to find how to match these (they are programmed (I have been told) from
the front keyboards of the Card cage & the independent modems, as they ship in a "Blank"
Configuration) in the interconnect to bring up the ASTRO DATA LINK to/from the ASTROTAC
3000's, Quantars, ATAC Receivers, & The DIU's over the 2 pair leased FDDA's so we can get
the system to have a complete ASTRO Network P25 Link. That System when it is fully
operational to/from the Dispatch Console will then be set up for 2 of 3 possible
operating configurations:
1-ASTRO APCO CAI P 25 Clear Mode
2-ASTRO APCO CAI P 25 SECURE Mode
3-ASTRO APCO CAI P 25 Mixed Mode (Conventional Analog & APCO CAI P 25)

I have been told that the product is from @ 1996 vintage & may be addressed via ProCom
Software & DOS (on 486 or Later DOS PC), but I am not positive of that claim...

We really would prefer to use the internal self config. 9600 Baud Modems which we have
used in previous Systems, but that option in NOT available at this time!

Any "Cheat Sheets" or leads to some step by step Config. data & suggested settings that
would enable us to link the ASTROTAC 3000's, Quantars, ATAC Receivers, & The DIU's would
help us get back on track!

I've never used the Paradyne modems either, but they look like they could work for you. The data between the Quantar's, Astro-TAC's, and DIU's is 9600 bps full-duplex synchronous serial. So, you'll need to set the modems accordingly. You'll have to decide whether to have the radio equipment or the modems generate the clock signal for 9600 bps data, and program each appropriately.

The Quantar's and Astro-TAC units will need to be equipped with optional V.24 interface cards, which you'll connect your modems to. These cards add two RJ-45 jacks on the front of the Quantar. The DIU should have a V.24 interface built in, which should be accessible on the rear COMM connector.

Mixed-mode analog/P25 digtal will be more complicated with these modems. The original Motorola "Astro Modem" was designed to support mixed-mode where analog audio signals (voice/tones) would be sent over the same 4-wire circuit as the modem data. It will be much more tricky to do that with these generic Paradyne modems. You may need a second 4-wire circuit to each device (Quantar, Astro-TAC, and DIU) to support analog operation. Basically the digital information would be sent over one 4-wire circuit via the modems, and the analog voice/tones will go over the other 4-wire circuit. This is the "V.24 Hybrid" interface, which you'd select in the wireline configuration for each Quantar/Astro-TAC, and DIU.

Those are some of the biggest issues you'll have to figure out before you proceed...

We have the Paradyne modems set up as folows:

ASTRO V.24 LEASED LINE LINK USING 3810 MODEM (3 page .pdf)

They were programmed from ProComm Connections Software (Symantec) via Windows XP,
using the above referenced Spec Sheets...
(End 1 is the Card Cage (3811's) & End 2 is the Remote Desktop unit 3810's)

we are using 58D82653X45 D-25 to RJ-45 (Hawk Electric) Adapters on the Remote 3810's...

The data between the Quantar's, Astro-TAC's, and DIU's is 9600 bps full-duplex synchronous serial. We have set the modems accordingly the modems are generating the clock signal for 9600 bps data, rather than the radio equipment, and everything is programed appropriately.

The Quantar's and Astro-TAC units have been equipped with optional V.24 interface cards, which we have connectted to our modems. The DIU has a V.24 interface box (FLN 5642A), installed on the rear COMM connector.
The V.24 Board S101 (FLN 5624A) Port 1 Jumper is at: 1= Off, 2=Off, 3&4 N/A...

The "V.24 Hybrid" interface, has been selected in the wireline configuration for each Quantar/Astro-TAC, and DIU.

Quantar's, Astro-Tac 3000's and Astro-TAC units have been programmed
1- for External Clock
2- Idle Link Check ENABLED for both Digital & Analog


We are also getting "conflicting" suggestons as to the type of interconnect cables (Cross, Straight Thru, IP) (Silver Satin or other type Cat 5) to link the ASTROTAC 3000's, Quantars, ATAC Receivers, & The DIU's
any previous experiences would help us get back on track!
