You are probably still too fast for the radio. Those radios are prone to programming errors unless you are using
a very slow computer. The slower the better. I have 2 old clunkers that I keep just for a couple of the old
radios still around. One is a 33 MHz and the other is a 100 MHz. One or the other always gets the job done.

Not sure what the latest version of the Systems Saber RSS is number-wise, but according to Motorola's Pentium Compatibility matrix, RVN-4051F should work. You likely have an earlier version.

got it working finally
my friend loaned me a 486 25mhz
its slow but it works!

is there a way to design a codeplug file in the windows gui then just load it with the old dos rss?

Nope. Saber RSS needs pure DOS. I use a 386 at 20MHz, and underclock it to 10MHz to be sure. RSS screens take about 0.2 seconds to load instead of 0.001 seconds, but I have yet to see a serial data error.

Actually, yes. The issue with Windows is the read/write to the radio, not the actual running of the RSS (99% of the time, anyway). Once you've read the codeplug, you can take that codeplug to any Windows computer via floppy disk or whatever, and build it with the RSS within a DOS window or Command Prompt. Then transfer it back to the old computer to write the finalized codeplug back to the radio.
