repeater question

Hello everyone.

I am trying to pitch an idea to the higher ups at work.
I remember seeing a long while ago, that someone had made a portable repeater using two maxtrac radio's and enclosing the entire thing in one of those plastic file boxes with a handle on it . ( I believe his problem was trying to make two seperate channels capable to speak to each other. I just need a basic repeater so in a bad area our 5 watt handhelds can be heard.
Our company uses CDM1250 mobiles. Could anyone give me an idea of how I would make one of these things, with a list of parts and an approx price for it all.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks for reading this. :o

What you have in mind was doubtless a tactical "cross-band" repeater; i.e., either the input was VHF and the output was UHF or vice versa. The problem (or one of the problems) with a true repeater (where the input and output are in the same band, which is how I interpret your objective) is the necessity for a duplexer.

In any event, these sort of setups tend not to work very well, and they have very limited duty cycles.

But, people make them all the time & they certainly have their uses. A good place to start is this thread here:
