I have found a number of suppliers that are supplying 95% NEW GP380 VHF Portables out of both Hong Kong & China. The 5% that is used has me intriguied, but anyway...
Has anyone here come across them either in operation or their work bench ?
Are they legit Motorola Radios or cheap crap knock off's ?
Thank you in advance

The 5% means they're new old stock.
Yes they're legit Motorola radios. Just the European, Asia version of the HT1250 as well as the GP360 being the eastern version of the HT750.
I've heard they have to be programmed with a different CPS

And your local in-country MSS might refuse to service them. I once had this happen with a bunch of GP300s I purchased in the US that had Chinese mfg. stickers on them. The MSS did one round of service on two of them but they came back to me without the stickers.

These are legitimate radios, but, if I'm not mistaken, the GP380 is a European version radio which has a very different firmware build than an HT1250 - e.g., 256 modes but no zones, no MDC, and various other differences. This radio also requires a different CPS than an HT1250. On the other hand, the GP338 radios coming out of Hong Kong are Asian version radios with the same firmware as an HT1250. You can use the HT1250 CPS if you make the region hack that is described in other threads.

the region hack works fine for ver 6 pro software. I just programmed some GP338s and an HT1550 with the same software.

That's correct for the GP338s, but a GP380 requires entirely different CPS due to a very different firmware build. The CPS for a GP380 is European CPS R03.09.03 or later.

I got a 95% new VHF GP68. My findings:
1. The radio had no external signs of use/wear.
2. The charger by mistake is labeled "MOTOROLA" although I think the real brand name is "MOTOLORA"
There are also some very helpful labels in chinese underneath (Sorry, I can't tell if it is traditional or simplified chinese)
3. The volume control failed in the first day of operation. It was replaced, but the tech that performed the operation
was missing his soldering iron and used a nail heated by a candle instead.
( I used to do this when I was a kid.. You also need pliers to hold it)
4. When I tried the scanner function I found that the entire band was full of non-existing carriers that were disappearing
when I loosen the antenna...
This problem was also fixed using a real and hot soldering Iron on various parts of the pcb that were "soldered" by that nail.
