C100 Deskset help
I have a Motorola C100 desk set and I would like to connect it to a CDM1550. It has the advanced MDC signaling and would like to use it to disable a stolen radio, if the need arises. Do I have to open this remote or can I use the DB9 connector (on the back) to wire it to the radio? I want to use it as a local control, if that is not possible what options do I have. Thanks
Re: C100 Deskset help
Any ideas how to hook up the C100 as a local remote? Does it have to be a tone remote? Available radios to me are - CDM, Maxtrac, GM300, Astro Spectra, even a Bendix King mobile.
Re: C100 Deskset help
You'll have to give the exact model number, as the "C100" is generic & covers the local, DC & tone versions. If it's a local remote, the hook-up isn't difficult. If it's tone or DC, you require a remote adaptor module. If the label is gone, open the unit & see what it has for connections...tone & DC units have 'line 1' & 'line 2' designations, or sometimes '2W' & '4W' (for 2-wire & 4-wire). Local remotes will have connections labeled for ground, PTT, RX audio + / -, TX audio + / -.
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

Re: C100 Deskset help
It is an L1475A C100/Command Series with Option E650 Rapid Call/Stat-Alert Desk Set Encoder/Decoder - It has a DB9 on the back. It also has Aux out and LCL PL STRIP terminals (According to the manual). I have a GM300, CDM, or Spectra for radios.
Re: C100 Deskset help
An L1475 is a tone remote. No bingo for the local control option. You need a tone remote adaptor or L1473.
Re: C100 Deskset help
I do have an IDA 20-27 tone panel. I have no instructions for it - It has an RJ-45 and a DB-25 on one side and RJ-11 or RJ-22 "Local Mic" on the other. Also something that looked a little strange. Inside the 20-27 there are two IC's that have one leg outside the socket. There is an 8 pin IC and a 16 pin IC and both have one pin out of the socket. There is also another circuit board mounted on top of the main circuit board "Tone adapter panel digital 900-0242-A" I tried to get a manual from the IDA website, but I cannot access the downloads section, it keeps timing out.
Re: C100 Deskset help
There are some 1473's for sale on this board that would give you plain vanilla control of the CDM.

Rereading your request, I would have to do some research to see if the 1475 you have with its current options would do the radio kill you wanted. I also do not know if the IDA term panel would pass the required signalling or not. The advanced remotes usually did the heavy lifting, and the radio is transparent. From your original msg, it sounds like the radio itself has the advanced features and you want a remote that will drill through the menus for you. Dunno if the Ida or the L1475 can do that. It also doesn't sound like the Ida is in good condition. Socketed chips with a lead hanging out is not the norm for a well behaved piece of equipment.

Re: C100 Deskset help
I have the Option E650 (STAT-ALERT) on the Desk Set - I'm just looking to interface it with a radio (No signaling from the radio).
Re: C100 Deskset help
Ah. In that case, do you have another tone remote adapter aka term panel with documentation?pfd radio wrote:I have the Option E650 (STAT-ALERT) on the Desk Set - I'm just looking to interface it with a radio (No signaling from the radio).
Re: C100 Deskset help
No other tone adapter - Looks like I'll have to get one.
