XTS5000 M3 display problem

I have an XTS5000 M3 VHF that is having issue with the display going blank sometimes when you transmit and will not come back on till you turn radio off and back on. It does not seem to do this when I have the speaker mic in use. I thought it was a battery issue but when I test the voltage on the battery its ok. No mixing pixels in the display. Any ideas ?

Jeff,
I got to get one of the housing removal tools from you before I do that. I was told the housing is fragile at the bottom and you should not use a screwdriver is that true ? Do they make a M3 refurb kit that has the volume and channel selectors installed and no display ?

Only when purchased as a kit, unless they changed something on me. The 5k housings do include the escutcheons, though. IIRC the housings with electronics are about $240 more than the housings alone.

It can be done with a screwdriver but I would not recommend it. I have done it before without any problems. If you have the tool that's the easiest way but it's not the
only way

Unless you use the display with the model number ending in C04, those are not band specific like C01/02/03. Just as a point of conversation, the 5k and 2500 use the same displays

Sounds like there could one or more issues ,but I will have to look into it. Is it cheaper if I just buy a refurb kit and rob the electronics from a NEW M2 housing that I can get for $50 ? My radio is a VHF M3 and I always use it on high power.

No, you probably don't need a full new housing. I would suggest replacing the screen. If you PM escomm he probably has the C04 displays in stock. Buying a full electronics housing for a 5000 does not usually include the display.
When you pull the radio apart, the connector should have a label on it. Looking at that label you should be able to reference Hightowers post and determine what bandsplit the display belongs to.

I just want to thank all who replied and escomm ,who I got the display from. I installed it today and it seems to work fine,no going blank and all the other crazy things it did. The display that was in the radio is a C01.
