So, I've already PM'ed escomm to source some antennas for my UHF portables, but I do have a question.

I was able to find an unused "Tuf Duck" antenna by Antenex/Laird. The antenna IS UHF, however its UHF-Lo, 400-420mhz (model #EXC400SF). My question is, would using this antenna in the higher range, 450-470mhz, while some reception loss would more then likely occur, would this possibly damage the transmit section of my radio?

Does anyone have experiance with the "Tuf Duck" Antenex/Laird, antennas? Is there a great performance loss when using this, obviously UHF-Lo antenna, in the upper UHF regions?

Yes, it would cause some higher than normal SWR and the reflected power from an improper match could damage the radio. Its better to use the correct antenna

You need the EXC450SF antenna for the 450 thru 512 band. They also work very well for 440-450. Much better than the OEM Motorola because they do not have the inductive jumper to the SF center pin, that IS why the OEM Motorola antenna is much shorter physically.

We actually tested many aftermarket antennas for the Jedi and Astro Saber radios on a antenna range as well as the stock OEM. The winner is the EXC450SF antenna.

"Tuff Duck" used to be Centurion's trade mark. Too bad Laird got in the portable antenna business, sucking up good companies and making junk for high profits..

Will, you know anywhere were I could find that particular antenna for sale?

Tessco, Hutton, talley communications there are tons of 2 way suppliers on line that have them just do a search. I think they run about $20 each
