m1225 Remote Speaker

I am going to install a M1225 in a center console. I want to use a remote speaker. What are the options for this radio. I read that it has to have 8 ohms impedance, but I can't find a breakdown of which speakers are fully compatible with this radio. Also, this vehicle is used in noisy environments, what is the loudest speaker available?

Thanks

The "loudest speaker" is an electronic function of how much audio power the radio can furnish to the properly matched speaker, which in this case is 8 ohms. You could possibly make the circuit louder by using a 3.2 ohm speaker which would allow more current to flow in the circuit but that larger current might be more than the radio can furnish, so at high volume you might burn out the audio circuit. Play it safe; use an 8 ohm speaker and turn up the volume. You might also use a horn-type speaker in place of a standard paper cone unit which would help some in overcoming noise in the vehicle.

I'm looking at the Motorola RSN4001. Is this an 8 ohm speaker? Many websites list it as compatible with the M1225.

The rsn4001 has a larger cone and a longer throw. Reasonably efficient. Reasonably loud. Certainly louder than the internal spkr. Whether it is loud enough for your application will be your call. I've had to add some horsepower to make speakers loud enough to be heard over a pump panel, or in a smelter pedastal (ie: add a car stereo amp with PA horns)

Thanks for the replies guys. I found 3 RSN4001's on Ebay, and ordered them. I will post a follow-up once they are installed.

Speakers have worked great! Plenty loud for my application.
