Hello,

I have a CDM750 that powers up, but does not transmit. Also, whenever a button on the face is pressed it emits 2 bonks. Once for the button press, and again when the button is released. This happens on ALL buttons. I can not read or write to the radio either.

Would it be possible to temporarily attach a 1250 head so that I can read if there is a failure code, or am I SOL.

Also, would flashing the radio be an option? I don't have the mobile ribless cabe to flash with, but if it's been done before I will invest in one.

What software version are you using?

Try to read the radio with R06.11.05. This sounds like a corrupted codeplug.

I try to reprogram firmware and it work for short time, I will also check control head connection J401 look at pin 4 ground and pin 11 for on/off command if this look to wide or damage replace this 12 pin connector I have work in pass for me.

I am currently using R06.11.05 and it was not able to recover it. It does read the radio, then an error pops up saying there are invalid fields.

Try to reload firmware R05.14.00 not the CPS

I further check this issue there a message from MOL FSB10112 please check built code date 4010 thru 7250 you may have to replace J401 or resolder control head ground contact.

I looked into FSB10112, and the connectors on the radio in question are good. I think I am going to try buying the ribless cable and flash the radio (I already have the flashing adapter) if nothing else works.

I never did like how incredibly unstable/fragile the firmware is in these radios. I just wish it didn't cost an arm & a leg to fix something so simple.

In CPS R06.11.05, they list a new feature that states:

- Enhancement CPS reading and writing feature: if target radio's codeplug is corrupt, CPS will try to recover the target radio with default codeplug.

I am using R06.11.05, and it made no attempt to recover the codeplug. I am growing increasingly tired of paying for the batwing only to get mediocre equipment compared to some products that they have produced in the past in regards to quality control and customer satisfaction.

The last time I tried to read the radio, I got an error popup that reads "Image is corrupted. Checksum for read only region failed."

So if the error is in a read-only region, then will flashing the radio help (or work at all?).

From your description "CKsum for read only region failed" , it points that your radio have a corruption in the codeplug itself (not firmware),and CPS is not able to recover this type of corruption.

Either you write an entire codeplug(not using CPS, other tools) into your radio to clear it off (backup your tuning data first before you do, also serial number if you need, make sure the codeplug is for your radio model and not from different model/band) or send it to depot for them to recover it(will cost you).

Thats what I thought. I managed to harvest a good codeplug out of a severely water damaged radio that was beyond repair by removing U0111 (8 pin flatpack), and putting it into the radio with the corrupt codeplug. When I powered up the radio, it worked great!

I know that means the serial number was changed, but I can always swap the stickers to make everything OK. I also know the tuning values are now a little off, but I have all the test equipment needed to get things back to normal. One less payment to mother /\/\ to fix a radio that should never be broken in the first place.

PS - I have suspected for years that /\/\otorola has some kind of planned obsolescence built into these newer radios, but I have no proof. Still makes one wonder...

You can call Motorola Customer support and they will email you a blank codeplug for free.

Your taking a chance by using an old one from a corroded unit....

...my guess is, it was a one-off codeplug with a LOT of information that was not easily obtainable otherwise.

we all have codeplugs that we never wanna lose!
