I recently received an XTS5000R in trade for some Systems Sabers.

1st question:
Is there a database where I can check the SN for theft etc. ?


2nd:

indicates that a DSP Less than DSP DSPx06.xx.xx = VSELP KEEP AWAY!!!
while the Flashcode (listed below) indicates IMBE.

Is this an IMBE or VSELP radio ?


3rd: Also, there seems to be an 'echo' in the received audio when listening on a scanner.

Any ideas here ?


4th: any other concerns come to mind ?

1. search, there is a stolen radio database and a way to do a NCIC search.
2. That guide is old and some info is outdated now. The VSELP crap is only for astro line ( Astro sabers, spectras xts3k) that firmware is older, and could use a uprgade, but far from VSELP.

The guide you are referring to is talking about Astro Saber/XTS3000/Astro Spectra firmware versions. The XTS5000 and the like are of a different firmware series. They are fully IMBE down at least as far as version 2.

The echo is probably due to the difference in processor speeds between the XTS5000 and the scanner. Even in analog an XTS5000 has a very slight time difference with a scanner (at least in my experience). A scanner and an XTS5000 on the same channel will be slightly out of phase cause a bit of an echo effect. Or, if you are transmitting on the radio and very close to a scanner, the scanner audio may be feeding back into the radio microphone giving you the echo.

Even in analog mode the radio still uses a digital processor and that's why you hear the echo. All 5K radios do this.
