MCS2000 programming issue...

During a big drill this week, I was trying to reprogram a mcs2000 (800 mHz) for interop channels. It didn't work out too well for me though... I kept getting a 'communication error with radio' type message (I'll have to retry it to write down the exact message) I know it wasn't a problem with the RIB or cable because I had to do (3) CDM1250's as well which worked without a problem... The software package I'm running is RVN4175V (R2.02.00) and the radio was purchased around mid 2007 (I think) I've never tried to work on this radio before, so I'm not sure if there is a rss version mismatch here...

Am I right in figuring it was programmed with a newer version of rss than I have, or is there something I'm overlooking? Anybody able to help me figure this out? I'd like to get the 8Call & 8Tac channels in there before we get an assignment... Thanks in advance, Ben

First off, the MCS2000 uses a different cable than the rest of the Maxtrac/Radius/CDM/RJ45 mic jack world. I built mine into a DB25-RJ45 adapter hood and use regular off-the-shelf Cat 5/6 cables for the actual cable itself.

Is the RIB you're using an actual Motorola RIB, or a Polaris or some other knockoff? MCSes are especially persnickety about programming voltages and typically won't work with anything other than a genuine Motorola RIB with a fresh battery or good power supply.

Ahhh, that might be the problem! I really hate when Ma M does that... I've got a bag full of cables already and I have to keep getting new ones as they come out with other models! Yup, I am using a genuine RIB (actually, I own 2 - always good to have a spare) and my agency owns 2 (different Bureaus...) Thanks for the assist, I never would have caught that one... Ben
