masc encryption

Post by 2e0lpa »

Hi all over the past 5 years all the blue light services have or are being changed to digital airwave in the uk which use tea encryption, which is imposible to hack into, before airwave masc encryption was used in ht600e mt6000e handhelds, masc encryption was invented by marconi company in the uk, anyone in the states use it? anyone have a pair of masc encrypted radios? what do you think of them? also whats the most common system your police use is it 800mhz and what encryption is used? thanks guys

Probably the most common algorithm for encryption these days for law enforcement is still DES. Be it the DES-XL or DES-OFB variants. For P25 Digital (ASTRO), DES-OFB is the most popular.

There is a bit of a move to AES-256 going on, but it hasn't quite gotten there yet (IMHO).

I've never worked with MASC encryption, though I have heard of it.

I had a bunch of P200 scrambling fronts a few years back, didn't know anything about them and nether did our BatBoard members. Only thing I remember about those is they all had *601 written on all the boxes which I thought might be the scramble code, had about a dozen all NOS. Was masc encryption exported to the US ? At the time couldn't get them to do anything other than act like a normal front, did these have a special RSS ?

Hi thanks for the feedback guys, radio south re your question, no special RSS it was a board fitted to the radio which gave it masc encryption, but the early version had an extended front grill to fit the board in, it was the same as your mt1000 but with the extended front panel, the later ones, ie mt6000e the board was very flat and fitted without any outside case modifications, i also have astro saber radios with the uk govt sticker on which do dvi encryption, if anyone wants photos of the kit please feel free to ask and i can send some over, even in the uk you will find people who love moto gear, thanks guys and thanks batlabs for the site
