Does anyone know anything about the Quantar / Astro Tac comparators that are showing up on eBay lately?

Are these digital only? What RSS / CPS is used for these types of units? Manual #'s ?

Many thanks for any information that might be available.

Are they worth getting?

Thanks.

Fred

They appear to be Astro [VSELP] voters.

A P25 voter is an AstroTac 3000.

There was a seller in Colorado selling Astro voters with the same model number but those had been upgraded to AstroTac 3000.

The TPC connectors are visible on the front of the ebay picture of these comparators so I would say they have not been upgraded since the AstroTac 3000 doesn't use the TPC.

AstroTac voters were used in Smartzone 2 systems for digital VSELP channels and paired with Digitac voters on mixed-mode channels.

If you are building or maintaining a voted VSELP digital system - one of these comparators might be just what you need

Thanks for the info. That explains why they are so cheap.

Aside from replacing the firmware, what's involved in the upgrade to P25? I assume that it's quite a bit, since otherwise the original user of these things would have done it. (Of course, somebody might have told them that the existing stuff just had to be replaced!)

The power supply, card cage, and back-plane are the same for the AstroTac 3000.

The upgrade kits that I have seen included new wireline cards, a new controller card, new front panels, etc.
