I have seen RAILROAD MAXTRAC's but they were the cheap version, but this does not mean there are not other special versions!A picture would be great!I have looked at 3 MAXTRAC's at Asheville,NC yard but they are all 5 pin.Have you powered it up to see if it is a 32 channel?I have seen alot of GM300's that say CONRAIL on them at hamfest's.They are regular 45 watt 16ch version's in very poor condition. Is it inscribed with a RR name?

Perhaps the red button is to an internal encoder used to "beep" the dispatcher. Alot of systems use a single tone, i.e. 2200 cps for this.
