I have searched through here and cannot find find a post about a complete capacitor replacement parts list for the spectra. I thought it was this forum I had seen it......I think I had posted it some time ago.

I have an A7 VHF mid-power that I am doing a complete cap replacement on. Can someone give me the cap values-sizes in order to get this done? Also is RAT-shack the place to get these or is their a better place???

Thanks,

Mike

I would not and DO NOT use the original-style surface-mount electrolytics and those mentioned above. They are way too hard to solder onto the board, especially if there is any corrosion or deterioration of the solder pads. I have done a lot of accelerated testing in the last few years with different capacitors. I use Mil-Spec surface-mount components, except for the PA and the display filter cap in the head. There have been cases where the corrosion has eaten away so much of the pads that I have had to use leaded components and solder to other locations on the board to restore the functionality. The control head presents a problem and I use a special electrolytic that is hard to get.

For most people, caps with radial leads are a lot easier to solder into the Spectra radio. The A4, A5, and A7 control heads have space limitations due to the stiffener on the back of the circuit board.

it's a challenge, but after the first couple hundred, you get used to it.

After doing a bunch of radios with radial-lead caps, I'm sold on that method. I don't have the part #s handy, but I took the values from Repeater Builder and ran them through Digi-Key and got the smallest ones I could get. I also stepped the 16V caps up to 25V.

If you're going to use radial lead caps, look for 7mm size, those should fit without having to lay the caps on their sides. I've used Nichicon brand from Mouser with pretty good results.

here's a post with a picture:

The originals used some 16 volt ones, 25v are pretty much the same size and price so those are preferred.

The caps values used are....

RF board:
4 - 10uF/16v or 25v
1 - 47uF/16v or 25v

Command board:
3 - 10uF/16v or 25v
1 - 10uF - 50v

PA:
1 - 10uF/50v

Control head (A4/5/7):
2 - 10uF/50v

buy some extras just in case... they don't cost much.
