I have "inherited" some XTS2500s and XTL2500s in the department and they have a programmed digitial channel... err used to. The XTL2500s and 1 XTS2500 protable still work fine with that channel but 2 portables say "KEY FAIL" when trying to use the selected channel.

Question is -

What do I need to program the keys back in?

Would I need to re-program all with same key or use the keys provided by the orginal loader when purchased?

Cables are pretty easily purchased but is there a software package that would fit in a low budgeted department?

You need a keyloader and the appropriate cables to connect the various radios you have. If you have the keyloader that was used originally to load your radios (and no one has messed with the keys installed in it) you can probably load the new radios with no problems. If you can't, then you probably will have to write a new key and load it into every radio on the system. You should also know before you start the process what exact method of encryption is being used because there are several of them.

what might be helpful to start this is post the model numbers, flashcodes off the back of the radios.

Then on the display radio turn on and hit bottom side key 5 times to enter service mode and tell us what all that says. Should help identify the encryption type.
