MTS2000 fault

Hi guys,
Today I was given a MTS2000 from the local volunteer fire brigade to see if I can get it working. They have since upgraded to a XTS2500 so no biggie if I cannot repair it.
The problem is upon power up the LCDis full of all of the pixels and symbols and the radio wont tx or rx. I have tried to read the cp without success. The radio also makes a weird humming noise then after about 20 seconds it powers down. After a short time it will start up again and remain on however with the screen still full with no TX RX or anything else.
Any ideas?
