Jedi Convertacom Question

I am considering purchasing a Jedi Convertacom. While I have used one for a System Saber, I have never used or seen a Jedi one. He says it is a complete 800 mhz setup including the amp. My question is this. I want to use this with my UHF radio, so can I simply not use the Motorola 800 mhz amp, & use my own UHF TPL amp? Is there a mini UHF connector on the cradle where i could connect coax to my TPL UHF amp? Do the mike & spkr all plug into the cradle, or is there a controller box too that they plug into? Thanks for the help. GARY N4KVE

Mount the 800 & UHF amps side by side and just move the rf cable over to the uhf amp when using the uhf jedi in the cradle unit.

The cradle units I have seen all have had mini uhf connectors on them although I have been told some have bnc.

Just be sure to also switch the antenna on the vehicle to uhf also.

The mic and speaker plug into the cradle unit so it should work out fine for you.

Can't the 800 amp just be removed from the cradle & sit in a box in the basement, or are there other parts in the amp that are required for operation? GARY N4KVE

Sorry but I forgot to mention that the cradle and amp are two separate units. There is an interface cable
between them so while using the TPL amp is also possible it will complicate matters which you will have
to work out the differences when converting from one to the other.

The cradle and control unit are separate units, and both are required.
The amp, if so equipped, is included in the control unit. IIRC, the amp has a separate power connection. I don't remember if the integration with the control unit that would cause any problems if you simply left the amp powered down.
