MCC 75000 console questions

Ok, so a friend has asked me to look into this and I have had trouble finding info. They are implementing a new medical command center for our operations of ems and have went with the MC 7500 series consoles. We currently have an avtec that is tied into our phone system with caller id, on screen dialing and patch options and it works like a charm, the new site has Cisco IP phones (they are physically moving our mcc). What he wants me to find out is if the console can be tied into the cisco ip phones. I figure with it being an ip phone system that it's possible as a simple matter of a software interface. So far they are telling them that it's not possible, but I figure it's a matter of money vs being technically impossible. This presents a big issue as they do the phone to radio patches for medical command orders on a daily basis and will be a step backwards for them. And having more than one headset interface won't work (Phone and console unless there is a tie box, but this dosen't help the patch options) Just wondering if this was possible. Also was wondering if the console had the ability to support a limited playback recorder like we have now where the last 3 minutes or so can be played back? We sometimes miss things in the reports to relay onto the docs and hospitals so this is a needed feature. They plan on doing the primary archive recordings off site to save money as all the sites have ds-3 microwave linking them together. Primary system is lots of analog tower sites tied back into the consoles and a statewide astro 7 trunking system.

Thanks for any info, I know the centracom stuff, avtec, zetron, and the telex ip stuff but haven't had a chance to see anything on the new motorola ip console stuff as there aren't too many astro trunking sites near me other than this statewide system and it's not up and running yet in our area.

I am by no means an expert on 7500's but recently installed one with my company for our county 911. What it sounds like you want to do is have the 7500 machine maintain phone traffic as well as Radio? Our Motorola Site Tech told us not to install any programs onto the machines besides the included software otherwise our warranty would be voided. I bet that is what you are running into as far as running Phones and Radio off of one system. We are currently running 7500 for radio with Plant CML Sentinel for phones and they interface extremely well. The only connection they share is a cat 5 cable between the GPIOM and the CML machine to cut radio traffic from the headset to the speakers while on a Phone call. As far as patching phone to radio I have no input on how that would be achieved. Our 7500 also came with a Plant CML instant recall recorder installed on the dispatcher computer for quick recall of recent radio traffic. The phone conversations were not included because they are on a separate system.

I hear that all the time..."Well, since it's all IP"..."IP" is simply the transport protocol...once the Motorola system 'unwraps' the IP encapsulation & looks at the actual Cisco data...it won't have a clue what to do with it! Same goes vice versa as well. So, unless Cicso & Motorola decide to get together & share some secrets & make their systems understand each other, it won't happen.

What you entirely missed was this line. "I figure with it being an ip phone system that it's possible as a simple matter of a software interface."

It would be possible to do without voiding the warranty if you have enough spare desktops laying around to match a desktop to every 7500 console position. It would be a matter of getting software from Cisco and running a phone computer side by side with the 7500 computer at each dispatching position. To continue to use one headset for both phone and radio would require a rj45/cat5 connection and proper wiring from port 8 on the GPIOM of the 7500 console to the Computer operating the Cisco Phone Software. That is assuming that the Cisco software/computer would have an output jack and the programming to interrupt radio audio from the headset when a phone call was received and picked up. As far as patching phone to radio conversations go I am a little fuzzy on that part and it would depend upon the hardware package you ordered with your 7500. Don't quote me on this but this is my thoughts on what would be possible. If the cisco system could provide a 4 wire audio line for phone calls that were in progress to the CCGW of the 7500, the administrator of the system could provide the cisco system a port on the CCGW and an icon the the 7500 screen. Then to patch them together the dispatcher would have to drag both of their icons together into the Patch box on the 7500 screen and Voila the phone would broadcast over the air to the responders. As I mentioned earlier I am not certified in the 7500 console but I have worked alongside 2 coworker/techs that are certified and have had 2 weeks of Motorola training and 6 months of hands on with the system. If you have any more in depth questions let me know and I could pass them on to either of them. I would have to believe that if you recently purchased the 7500 your Motorola ST that would be on site during the install could confirm or deny most of what I have said. Talk to the ST or Motorola and see if they could help you integrate the cisco system side by side with your 7500.
