XTS3000 IMBE Call Alert does not work with XTS5000?

Hi,

I have a XTS3000 Model III with the latest firmware.

I programmed the same freq and NAC on a channel to match my XTS5000.

I also have the unique ASTRO radio ID of the XTS5000 programmed in my Call Alert list on the XTS3000.

But when I try to call alert the XTS5000,I get no ACK on my display of the XTS3000.

But,strange is that the XTS5000 will call alert the XTS3000 but I keep getting PLEASE WAIT message on my XTS5000 display and after a long wait, get the NO ACK on the screen but that the XTS3000 is successfully alerted.

Also, strange is that I have to key the mic button about 5 times or so to reset on my XTS3000 when I use my XTS5000 to alert the XTS3000.Normally,I just have to hit the PTT once to reset on the XTS3000.

Both the radios works fine on IMBE digital conventional voice on that channel. The MDC-1200 Call Alert works properly on a analog freq between the two radios on another ch.

The XTS5000 has firmware and DSP of R05.00.00.

Thanks In advance.

Ko

There was an enhancement in Host R06.01.00 for Astro25 subscribers pertaining to Call Alert (Page) is not received when the subscriber has an Enhanced Private Call pending. There were also numerous Call Alert features added in Host R05.xx.xx, which your radio may be on the borderline of. I would get your Host updated in the XTS5000, and then see if it receives a call alert from the XTS3000..

You may also want to check a couple settings on both radios.

I think in the XTS5k CPS, there's an option in the call list for "ack expected", you'll probably want to check that. I think however that the XTS3k is too quick to ACK and the 5000 isn't prepared for it (ie PL turn off-code still on, etc). I forget exactly what the setting is, but it's a setting I've had to adjust to get CAI Call alert to work through a P25 repeater, otherwise I had the same issue you did.

Thanks for all the advice.I will get the firmware upgraded and see if that solves the issue.

Be sure the 5000 does not have F7E set as the receive NAC. F7E strips RID specific information off incoming transmissions. You will not see the ID of transmitting radios if your using ID display and you will not be able to receive pages, calls or Acks.

Really? I'm sitting here with a 5k programmed on a P25 conventional channel with RX NAC set to F7E, and it happily shows other radio's ID's, and decodes selective calls and call alerts, as well as receiving acks from other radios when it sends them.

Can you be more specific as to why you think this won't work?

HUH. I must admit, I have never programed F7E into a 5000 and I don't have one with me to try it this week. But I have had this exact problem with Astro Spectras and XTL3000s. The radios were not displaying IMBE IDs with all the settings in the display tab checked correctly, and they could send but not receive a page. The only change I made in the codeplug was changing F7E to the proper NAC for the channel in use and both problems were solved. Granted, these were both Astro radios, I assumed Astro25 would behave the same...I guess I shouldn't have. I will do some experimentation with the XTL this weekend.

Astro25 radios do not behave like older astro radios in the ID display regard.

Especially XTL3000’s… Ha!

It sounds like you're describing what happens when you have a NAC mismatch. Regardless of what the literature says, I have NEVER seen an Astro radio, with any combination of firmware and RSS/CPS, treat F7E as digital CSQ - they just treat it like any other NAC.

Thus, with a RX NAC mismatch, the receiving radio should not respond to selective calls or call alerts, and may not show the ID of the transmitting radio, depending on the platform (Astro radios do not appear to show ID's with a NAC mismatch, Astro25 radios don't seem to care and will show the ID regardless).

IIRC F7E was a problem on Astro units, do a search and you will find a lot of info.

HAHA, yeah, that is a super secret Schaumburg underground model..

Good stuff...the RX squelch was set to digital CSQ so that could very well be what was going on. Thanks, Ill be interested to check that out this weekend

Ok.

Issue solved.Under Astro system, general tab,the preamble length as default is set to 0.Once I increased the number count from "0",the radio would ACK using Call Alert without issues...
