I am trying to program a Motorola M1225 but am not having any luck. Here is a little bit about my set up:
• Computer 1: Dell Latitude CPx (Laptop) running Windows 2000.
• Computer 2: HP Laptop.
• Both computers are running version 3.1 of the M1225/P1225 RSS.
• Ribless cable
• Rib and Programming Cable
So what is happening on both computers and when I use either the RIB or the RIBless is that I get the following error message after the computer thinks about reading the radio on COM 1:
Radio not active.
Check the following:
1) Connection from the RIB box to the radio.
2) Power supply for the radio
3) Is the radio on?
If I switch COM Ports then I get this message:
Computer Communication Port is not active.
Check the following:
1) Connection directly in back of the computer.
2) Configuration for Computer Communication Port.
3) Try a different port!!.
I have tried restarting, reinstalling, turning off the radio and then back on, different cables, different RIBs and I can get no where. I am thinking that the 3.1 RSS is too old for these computers and I may need a newer version. Any other ideas out there to get this to work?

Re: Unable to program M1225
You are correct. You require version 4.0 for the RSS to read/write radios in Win2000 and XP.dungonmyshoe wrote: I am thinking that the 3.1 RSS is too old for these computers and I may need a newer version.
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

And if you still can't do it after that, you are probably going to want a real Motorola RIB or one built from the Batlabs schematic. For some reason, M1225s don't play well with aftermarket or knockoff RIBs.wavetar wrote:You are correct. Re: Unable to program M1225
I use an aftermarket RIB for programming M1225s all the time, it's been great.
So far, I have not had one read/write failure with my uncased RIB.
I don't use ribless cables, just the run of the mill Maxtrac cable works very well.

Re: Unable to program M1225
Dungonmyshoe (nice username
), if you have an old machine laying around that you can install Windows 95 or 98 on, the older 1225 software will work under either. As already stated, the older versions (anything before 4.0) will not work under Win2K or XP, due to the fact that it can't get a com port under either.
