XTS2500 transmit problem

Post by Kevin212 »

I bought a used XTS2500i that is in really great shape. I have programmed it for my p25 system. Radio receives great and transmits fine when using my hand mic. However it will not transmit when using the PTT button. I dont get any tone, red light or nothing. The button clicks like its making good contact, but nothing. I have tried on conventional channels and trunked, nothing. Somebody had mentioned checking the radio surveillance mode. I have checked it and it is not checked under the personalities. Any ideas?

Bad flex, or a physically disabled transmit button (someone thinking they could monitor a system with it without TXing?)

Yeah it is strange. Works great when I use my hand mic. Transmits fine. I took the radio out of the case and the button appears to be working fine, well appears to be anyway.

When you say off, do you mean make sure its not checked in the personality. When I go under the advanced tab on radio wide, it says surveillance is per personality.

Just a quick update. The problem has been fixed. I read another post about a similar problem with a XTS2500 button. They fixed the problem just playing with the button with the radio out of the case. I figured I would give it a shot. Before taking the radio out of the case, I pressed the PTT button over and over approx 30 times. I couldnt believe it, but all of a sudden it began transmitting from the PTT button. Don't know if it was a strange connection, a speck of something causing an issue, who knows???? But its working now, so I caught a lucky break. The radio gods must have been praying for me..lol. Thanks to all thats responded with ideas.

XTS2500 board and buttons

Post by Kevin212 »

Looks like I may have a bad transmit button on my XTS2500i. The buttons are
connected to the board. Is there anyway to replace the button or do you have to
replace the board. If the board is replaced, does the radio firmware have to be
updated and all that? Or is firmware and flash stored somewhere else? Thanks
guys.

The button is a surface mount button. All the xts2500 and lower radios (Mt1500, XTS1500) use the same style board, as far as the PTT button goes. XTS5000 has a PTT button on a flex.
If your not that experienced with surface mount stuff, and or , all you have is a 250Watt solder gun, you need to find someone experienced to change this switch.

What radios do you own?: XTS/XTL & APX6000 & APX/XE

We've had numerous problems with that ptt switch on the 2500. It is one of the worst designs M has come out with in a long time. A switch that gets as much use as a PTT needs to be substantial, not that flimsy POS. They will pop completely off hte board, sometimes taking the pad with it. M should repair this free of charge. No one in Public safety should use this radio without a shoulder mike attached. :x
