Systems saber programming oddity

Im am trying to update one of my last remaining Systems saber III UHF High split with some new freqs. When I go to read or write it I get a " line locked can not find busy" or something like such. Granted I am using the same old toshilba 386 that I only keep for RSS its the same laptop that I have always used for this radio. I have an original motorola RIB, a Monty built cable. I can read and write all day long to my VHF sabers so its not a cable/rib/voltage issue. I even tried cleaning the contacts on the accessory port and a different case. I also did a com port check and it comes back ok and tells me its a Con5 radio. Ideas???

Are the VHF Sabers that are reading and writing just fine System Sabers as well?

The UHF is a systems saber. The VHF are standard sabers. I can run a com port check in the RSS and it will tell me what the CON version is and the radio displays CHAN 1 but nothing else

Are you using the System Saber RSS? I'm pretty sure that the System Sabers used a different RSS package than the traditional Sabers.

Okay, weird. Do you have a spare housing you could throw it in to rule out possible bad connections on the accessory port?

Ah, okay. Guess I should have read the original post a little better huh?

The only other thing that really comes to mind is maybe there's something awry with the actual pins on the radio that make the contact to the accessory port flex on the inside of the housing.

I would check the alignment of the contacts on the bottom of the radio frame first, if one is depressed enough, it will cause problems.
These contacts are used for all functions of the radio, such as the read/write cycle, tuning and external acesories, not to mention keyloading.
The bottom of the case gets crap in, and you could have oxide buildup on the kepton tape flex at the bottom.
This same flex routes to the rear accy. contact on the radio as well.
Since the radio can be read, and shows the CON version, the transfer to/from the radio appears to be functional.
Try going over your computer settings regardless, something is hosing the attempt.
I have had the same problems in the past, but i'll be darned if I can recall just what they were, specifically.
But one of the problems was directly related to the contacts on the bottom of the frame, so I became accustomed to check that area every time one came in for service.
