I know I’m probably missing something very obvious, but I just can't figure out what it is.

I’m attempting to program the 700MHz interop frequencies into the XTS5K using CPS R13.00.01. I set up a conv zone but could find no setting for channel spacing. It seems that’s only an option for trunking. Here is what I’m trying to program;

Every time I try to enter in a 700 MHz freq, CPS throws an error. It won’t accept ANY 700MHz frequencies. While researching this problem, I saw a few board members who posted that they had programmed in 700MHz conv channels into both the XTS5K & 2500. Is there some hidden setting or flash option that I’m missing?

That's because you're using the original, and now superceded, bandplan. The FCC realigned the 700MHz public safety spectrum after the first go-round (I don't remember the reason why off the top of my head). Refer to:

Unfortunately, that does not solve the bigger problem that I'm having. Evening using those new channels, I still cannot program in ANY 700MHz frequency in conventional mode. I know the XTS5K is capable of accepting these channels in trunking mode, but has anyone actually programed them in conventional mode? From the post I've read on the board, it seems as a few have done this successfully. I cannot and can't figure out why.

Check your channel deviation. Also check that you're not referencing a personality that is secure select or slave to analog securenet encryption (this will force 5KHz deviation operation).

Make sure you set the transmit deviation first or it will complain that you typed in an invalid frequency.

Tx Options: Transmit Deviation
(Zone Channel Assignment, Channels)

Selects the maximum variation amount (in khz) that the selected carrier / frequency can vary or swing from its designated un-modulated Tx Frequency for the current channel. This field becomes view-only for 900 MHz band radios; and "2.5 kHz” becomes the default setting for 900 MHz band radios.

2.5 kHz is NOT a valid selection If either of the following scenarios is true:

When the Secure Type is "Hardware”, and when the currently selected Conventional Personality has its Secure Voice/Signal Type is "Securenet", and when the currently selected Conventional Personality has its Secure/Clear Strapping field set to "Secure" or "Select"..

When the currently selected Conventional Personality has its Rx Voice Signal Type set to "Mixed Mode” or "ASTRO”, and when the currently selected Conventional Personality has its Digital Modulator Type set to "Wide”.

That did it!! I knew I was overlooking something obvious!! Thank you both for pointing me in the right direction, and also for the updated channel assignments. Talk about a duh moment!
