[XTS2500 Speaker Question]

So I got my XTS2500 in the mail last week. Every thing appears to work, except for the speaker. Sounds like it blown. Which is no big deal. Has any one here changed out a speaker on a 2500?

A couple of questions...

First of all, how do you know that the speaker is blown? Have you tried a speaker-mic to rule out other problems?

There could be a number of reasons for no audio, including a blown audio stage, a blown speaker (rare), a flex cable being unseated, or even having the radio set up to unmute only when PL or other code is received.

Second, is this a Panter88 or Panter8888 radio? Some of them have had problems with the flex cable that could lead to this type of problem.

If you really want to replace the speaker, then the part number is 8416579H02 and they are $67 from Motorola. You might want to visit an MSS and have them diagnose the problem first.

A speaker with a 84- part#? 84- are circuit boards. 50- are speakers (normally).

It's not a speaker only, it's a flex assembly with the speaker already soldered on. Although MOL gives a description of: BD CKT FLEX SPKR MIC

I believe the O5 high power flexes start with 84 as well

FWIW, these speakers cost about $6 6 months ago.

I've had to replace two speakers in both of my xts2500's. It's really easy to do for the most part...no soldering or anything like that. Just peal away where the flex is seated on the accesory connector and everything kinda just snaps off. Again be sure to check the audio w/ a speaker mic to confirm.

and just an FYI both xts2500's that i've replaced where Panter radios.

Hope this helps!

I miss you good old days when a multi-part assembly would have a 01- number.

Jeff,

You are correct - the part number that I gave him is for speaker and flex assembly. Do you happen to know the part number for the speaker alone?

They don't offer the speaker by itself, you have to buy the flex assembly. Or so parts ID told me. There is a part number for the speaker all by itself but it's not active in the system and there's no inventory ... or so they say

The speaker P/N for an XTS1500 is 5085637D03 . It looks to be the same as the 2500, and it's in stock for $8.00 list
