Centracom II B&L QCII Programming

Greetings all....

I am in need of some assistance from any/all CCII gurus out there to assist me in setting up and programming some instant QCII paging buttons and features on the console. Before I go any further..I'll just get this outa the way up front....YES it is a BLN1170 TOMI EEPROM setup, and yes I do have the software to make the appropriate changes if necessary. Having said that, here is what I need....

-I need to know how to add and program the instant page buttons on a CCM.
-I need to add that ever famous centracom low-high warble alert (sorta sounds like alert 2 but faster and reversed low/high instead of high/low) to the end of the QCII tones
-I need a squad alert feature (i need to page QCII over the fire frequency....and at the same time have the unit key up the PD main (or whatever I tell it to) and send out the touchcode of ### on that resource...then stay keyed up until the QCII is done and I am able to hit the main XMIT bar to send out the voice portion of the page over both.

I have some group page buttons programmed on a dedicated CCM as well as a PAGE SAFETY button, but they dont seem to program or really do anything. I also can't select multiple forms of paging for different resources (ie QC II on the fire resource and the ### touchcode on the PD resource). In addition to that, I cannot switch between Page QCII and Touchcode after hitting manual entry and entering a capcode...up to that point I have a choice, but after the code is entered all I can do is enter different capcodes. I cannot change page formats without resetting the TOMI and clearing the memory.

YES...I know and understand the whole capcode thing and how to come up with a code based on the tone frequencies. But, I need to know what to do about non-moto tones...or tones that are so far apart that they need to be entered by freq. manually because there is no capcode for them.

I also need to change the duration of the A/B tones as the current length of A is not long enough for the pagers to activate correctly. Silly me...I thought this would be like a gold elite or a CommandStar...or hell even a CommandPlus where I could enter paging freq. and duration info...and assign it to a button or alias using the RSS...but I see no such screen!!

Long and short of this is that I came into some TOMI's and other useful CCII stuff and built and configured a CEB and OP from scratch in my shop to play with. Everything works...no errors.... and YES I have the RSS programming manual! Reason for all this is that I just took over an account that still uses one of these and dont want to make any changes in the field that aren't tested on the dummy unit first...so I have to get this thing configured somewhat like the unit that is already in service...or at least know how to...without needing to carbon copy the TDM's & CCM's and dumping the personality of the PD's unit into mine (I just dont have the real estate for that). If I can get this to work...I may be resurrecting another one of these units for a different customer as their basement backup OP they have been hounding me about for 2 years.....but thats another story

Any/All help would be appreciated, and special thanks to d119 for all his insights thus far...he has been an invaluable resource!

Thanks for the kind words, GK.

Did you define the resources in the RSS as paging capable? That's something I just remembered. I was able to get my console set up to do manual entry paging in QC-I, QC-II, Touch Code and Digital Dial, but I've never messed around with the pre-programmed page buttons.

Can you get the OP to generate any pages at all? If I remember correctly, you have to press MANUAL ENTRY, then select the resource, then select the format, then enter the CAP code, and then press Signal/Talk. I might have it backwards, you might have to press MANUAL ENTRY, select the format, THEN the resource, then dial the CAP code and press Signal/Talk.

In fact..

I did not...only because it talked about QC I and not II. I can send out a page.....but once the CAPCODE is entered I cannot switch formats (ie QC to Touch Code) like i used to be able to do on the 1149 OMI card that was in there. I'm sure its a setting somewhere...just dont know what one. I will try setting a BIM up for paging..and see what happens from there....

I am also sure there must be a screen in the RSS....or a Shift (something) command that allows me to edit the paging parameters.....our other CCII's that were in service a few years ago did some interesting things as far as paging is concerned....I just need to know how to get there!

Okay...In case this helps anyone else I will post what I have found out....

- Apparently the QCII tone duration is controled by the version of QC paging that you select in the RSS (ie. K374AB, K347AC, K347AD, etc) & the firmware in the BIM

- My favorite "warble" tone at the end of the QC paging sequence is actually K374AE (competitive paging encoder) and an "SP" firmware version on the BIM

- The squad alert feature is just simply an instant page button programmed for touch code (K348AA) with a capcode of "000" sent out stacked with the QC tones on another button over a separate resource..so that is handled as well!

- The programming of the pre programmed page / Group page buttons are as described on several posts on the board. I apparently just didn't get the memo on that one, so for any others out there looking for the procedure...hold page safety...press instant call button (K708AA) to program....select page format.....select resource(s).....enter capcode.....press instant call button again to save.

There was obviously a bit of a learning curve here...but now that I know its mostly done with BIM firmware it answers a lot of the why/how questions. Hope this helps others out!
