Many times, the interconnect flex has been pulled out of the socket, or the clamp has become loose.

Open the case, reseat the flex cable and turn the unit on and look at the display.

The worst case scenarion is a defective LCD, and those aren't all that common.

Most problems arise with the flex cable being pulled from the header, or just unseated and either stops working, or shows odd characters due to imporoper signals getting to the display.

If the flex became unattached from the LCD body, then you will need a new LCD module.
Delamination of the LCD is not repairable by most shops, and the replacement cost of a new LCD is cheaper.
