I am new on here so this may have already be out there, but I have not found it. I have a VHF Syntor radio High-power (split system) the radio was programed was said to be working when I got it back from the shop. I got the radio hooked up and powered on; but I have no volume (the Rx light is on when the freq is busy), and I can key the radio to transmit, but no audio is heard over the channel (the Tx light is visible, and I can hit the repeater). What am I missing?

Ask your shop what they programmed on the receiver for a PL or DPL. Your radio has all the symptoms of the receive PL or DPL being incorrectly programmed. Another possibility is a bad speaker or audio amplifier on the receiver.

Ok thanks, tried another speaker , so kinda r/o that problem. The PL issue could be a prob though. Even on the weather channel which is CSQ can not be heard. Thanks, gives me somewere to start!

Check the radio cable large red wire fuse. The receiver can be powered through the control head connection, but the Rx audio amplifier and Tx amplifier require power from this large red wire to work.

The Rx audio path goes from the radio drawer through the control head wiring and back into the radio drawer. Make sure the control head connectors are all seated. There are lots of optional radio cable wiring configurations because lots of options on these older radios were done with different control head hardware, requiring different connections. In fact there is a factory manual just for optional radio cable wiring options.

There are also some internal radio drawer and control head jumper options that could screw up the audio if they are incorrect. However, if it was working these should be fine.

An oscilloscope to check the audio from the control head back into the radio drawer would be useful for troubleshooting.

Your Syntor was working. You took it to a shop to be programmed and it returned without rx audio on your lashup. I'd go back to the shop, explain the problem, and have them verify they have rx audio on their bench. Hopefully it's something simple like your spkr pin(s) pushed back in your control cable.

Are you sure that you have the remote control cable pushed in all the way at the radio end?

You say that you have a high power Spectra, by any chance is there a second DB25 cable connector
right beside the one your remote cable is plugged into? You should be connected to the one just below
the heavy power red and black cable connection. If you don't have the high powered radio, it won't have
a handle in the center of the radio that is locked in. There might be 2 DB25 connectors next to each
other on the medium power radio. If this is the case, you want to be connected to the one on the left.
The right one is for the rear control head and programming.
