Radio Upgrades

We are considering upgrading our mobile radios. Currently we are using the Kenwood TK-890. I have two options. One is to upgrade to the Kenwood TK-5810, which uses all the same cabling or I could upgrade to a Motorola mobile. I am thinking the XTL2500.
Does anyone have any general pricing info for the XTL2500? I'm thinking of a remote head with a 20ft control head cable. If it matters then I would think we would get the radio with conventional operation only.
Any thoughts?

If you have working radios now, why would you even consider the problems Motorola will produce and
all the expense they will put you through.
Purchase radios, they don't like selling the top of the line to anyone except public safety.
Purchase programming software. Need to be put through the ringer in trying to get them to allow
you to do this and then go through the issues of the license agreement.
Purchase the programming cable. Go to your local Motorola shop or try to get an MOL account
of your own. What a joke.
You must like being abused.

Wow...thanks for that constructive post. Seeing as you do not know the situation I am in or the equipment I am dealing with I don't see how your reply is at all relative to my inquiry.

Not sure why you picked infrastructure forum.... but
Here's a link to the NYS Radio Contract pricing. It will give you List Price to work from... Your discount mileage may vary.

David,
Not to further a flame war by any means, but Jim has a very good point. All be it not the "radio cost" answer you were looking for, but some intersting points he brings up. Motorola has become this huge mess. Interfacing with them is a horror show. For example, I am an end user with a quantar, I call up for technical support and they refuse to even speak to me. They simply direct me to the nearest MSS to get raped and hang up the phone.
Just a middle of the road thought and my small 2 cents.
Good luck with the venture -Rob

Hi Rob.
Thanks for your opnion. I do not consider your comments flamming by any means. I understand what you mean in that you get told to contact your vendor. Unfortunately it must be a sign of the times because I have encountered the same with Kenwood from time to time and Zetron.
Thanks again.
