800 mhz analog spectra , system 9000 head , it works fine with a single control head , however I just added a rear head , with a home built rear cable.
when I hook up the rear head, (the actual rear control head, not a front head , allegedly) I get intermitten fail 05/10 and 06/10 , when the radio is powered on it starts a self test and then resets 2-5 times before it actually powers on and it works (on front only) the rear head only reads "remote", and does not do anything , control does not transfer, the front head will display "remote" when I hit the "F/R" , but it does not activate the rear head. I tried switching the 2 heads and got the same result. Right now I am leaning toward both heads being front heads and they are fighting each other on the serial bus. The radio programs fine, but I cannot program the rear head, "serial bus timeout" I want to say "error 79"

So I have heard conflicting answers , but are the front and rear heads different , or can they be programmed to suit. And what exactially is fail 05/10 and 06/10, I have seen the write up on repeater builder , but it is a bit ambuguous, and clearly their fix (turn radio off and back on" is not working .

Well there is no siren connected or optioned , and as for communication failure with the rear head , yes seems to fit.

I might of found the problem, contary to what we would all like to believe , systems 9000 is not magic.

Notice anything special about the busy line...... it is either a typo or it is done by moto magic , I just read the system 9000 page on Mike's website and it sure appears it needs a Busy line to avoid data collisions, so it appears to start making sence, the front cable has a busy line so it works , but the rear keeps sending data down the buss blindly and causig a "pile up "on the buss.

Well I am going to try to add that busy line in tomorrow and see what happens , it can't hurt.

Well problem solved , added a busy line in this morning and it is working perfectly.

What is the exact process for programmming, do you program the radio with the rear head disconnected , then connect and "program rear control head" how does the radio/control head know which one is the rear head?

The RSS "knows". Just put the rear control head in place of the front C H and press Program Rear Control Head in the RSS.

When the software Zorches the radio, it does the radio and any control head attached as the front control head, Thus the need to program the rear head as it's own device.

To wit: If you put the rear head on the front cable and program the radio, the head will now be a front head, put it on the rear cable and program the rear head and it's now the rear head.

Advise the operators not to turn the system on by the rear head, as it will cause silly opps if the front head is off. (spits emergencies if I recall correctly)

The rear head is supposed to be blocked in the on position to prevent that problem. Open the head and move the switch to the on position, position the plastic slide over so it doesn't activate the on/off switch, reassemble, and your good to go.
