Hello,

A friend is trying to ID the radio in the picture. I know the picture is not that good, it is just screen shot from a Youtube video. If you can help that would be great!!

Image

It kind of reminds me of a GE MLS.

IIRC this C/H looks kind of like the 4 channel RR Micor heads. Note the PTT on the backside of the handset.

Here is a link to the youtube video this is from. If you watch it you will also see a an MCS2000 but we are not worried about it.

Thanks,

Jim.

The control head in T417 is RailRoad Micor. 12 channel IIRC.

Data radio? With a handset, volume control, and speaker switch?

I believe they were referring to the radio on the upper part of the cab. Kinda looks like a Maxar 80 case

Yeah, I would almost guess you were looking at 3 separate radios here: the one with the telephone-style control head (Syntrx?), the Maxar-clone on the wall, and the MCS, which may be a GM1200. IIRC railroads in Australia run 403-430 now and may even be trunked in some areas using MPT1327 or Smartnet.

Correctski - railroads in NSW are a bit of a mixture.. Theres some stuff on 412-420, some on VHF, and some GSM-R stuff too.

Some is MPT I believe, theres some stuff on the GRN (Smartzone Omnilink) and some simplex stuff.

I never really got into railways monitoring simplex cause its too complex. And ultimately boring :)

The data head on the wall looks like a Lite version of the old transit radio's used by Westchester County New York. You had to request a channel for talking by pushing the request button. The head would also send all kinds of data, whether it was location or engine temperature back to the dispatch center.

Thanks to all. I did receive some pictures of some Auzzie locomotives, and there are radios all over the place in them. I'll post them here in a day or two.
