narrow band radio question

Just want to confirm this narrow banding that is set for 2013 is for the radios to be set for at least 12.5 spacing right? I have guys at work panicing that the radios we are using will be no good comes that time. Also people have been mentioning that the "DN" models of HT1000 radios are good for narrow band. I have A,B,C,and DN models and all do 12.5 spacing. At least the ones I'm using are. The radios we are using for work are infact HT1000 "CN" models. We have already got rid of the Spectras and switched to CDM1250's. So are the HT1000's ok for narrow band?

I believe the term "narrow band" refers to the IF bandwith & transmit deviation and not the channel spacing. The A, B, and C may be capable of doing 12.5 khz channel spacing or in other words being programmed with freqs that are in 12.5 khz steps but I believe that only the DN versions are capable of supporting 12.5 khz IF bandwith and can switch to the 2.5 khz of transmit dev that is needed for narrow band..

I believe you left the reference thread out of your post.

Take a look at the part of the FCC site (OET) where you can input your radios FCC ID# I looked up my 'B' revision manuf 1997
HT1000 today and sure enough 11K0F3E is there (12.5 Khz spacing ie 2.5 KHz deviation). I have sales brochures from when these radios 1st hit the pavement and it looks they are all 12.5 compliant (which has been a requirement from the mid 90's).
I believe the only difference in the 'D' revision radios is the splinter channels that they will accept. If a legacy system is changing over to the new bandwith and the frequency is remaining the same I believe any HT1000 will do the job, it's just the resolution of those newer frequencies addressed by the new controller board in the D radios that A-B-C rev. radios can't do.

Canada went narrowband 5-8 years ago.
The last poster has good info on the HT1000.
All the HT1000 models have the proper circuitry (dual selectable IF filter) that allow the radio to be set for narrow/wide band but only the DN will do the splinter channels (we have not seen those in use up here yet).
One note, the HT1000 does not have companding, so if you go narrowband and mix with newer radios such as the HT750/1250 series, do not turn on expansion/compression on the new radios. If you do, the HT1000 will RX the HT750/1250 fine, but the HT1000's will be low level RX when listening on the HT750/1250.
