Quick question.....I do not have an older computer to program an MT2000 VHF. I was thinking of using vmware to install dos on and use that for the RSS? You guys think this is possible? I am not sure but I think VMWARE will let direct access to the Serial Port. I am using Windows 7 right now. thanks

If your version of Windows 7 is either pro or ultimate, then don't bother with VMWARE - download XPMode, which is free from Microsoft, and installs a full version of XP as a virtual machine.

BUT, if your machine is 64bit, and you want to run CPS, XPMode won't help you as the image of WinXP is also 64-bit. I use VMWare on a 64-bit Win7 machine for CPS, amongst other things. It runs great.

Actually, XPMode runs XP Pro, SP3, 32-bit. I'm running a 64-bit laptop with Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. XPMode is running on this laptop as a 32-bit VM. My CPS runs fine under XPMode, but will not run properly under Windows 7.
This is confirmation from Microsoft that XPMode is only 32-bit:
"Does Windows Virtual PC support 64-bit Windows XP as a guest operating system?
No. Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode was designed to help small business with application compatibility from Windows XP to Windows 7. The majority of business applications currently run on 32-bit versions of
Windows XP."

Either way, it doesn't help the original poster who was inquiring about DOS under VMWARE, not XP...I have no idea, so no help from me...

Sorry, I'm no help either. My eyes were tired and I was thinking CPS, which doesn't even exist for an MT2000. DOS may run under VMWARE, but I just boot directly to DOS. My apologies to the OP!
