recently purchased UHF Vertex Standard VX-824 at local ham flea market
it does not have dtmf keypad it has ABCD keys and LED display on front housing
is possible just replace housing with full dtmf keys? or housing with electronics ?
anyone have part# and cost?

The question is whether or not the radio as it now exists already has the DTMF electronics installed but is only
missing the keypad membrane and proper case. I once did two VX900s and all I had to do was the get two correct
cases and the keypad button (rubber) unit. Take a look inside and see what you've got to start with. Vertex will
give you plenty of help from California via their 800 number in the Parts Department once you know what you need.
Watch out for the speaker; I found that the cases ship without the speakers, which are a snap to install, but if your
existing cases have the speaker glued in you'll new new speakers, too. Again, my remarks are based on working with
the VX900 which was a considerably larger radio.
