Is there a way to take a HT1250 and talk into a CDM1250 in a fire truck and then the fire truck repeat the traffic to dispatch. We have coverage issues out in our County and we want to talk into our mobiles with our portables and possibbly have the mobiles act as a repeater. All are VHF and I just wondered if it all can be done without buying a mobile repeater and using different band portables on scene.

From what you are describing, it sounds like a Pyramid Repeater will work. Pyramid makes an In-Vehicle Mobile Repeater that will connect to the CDM1250 Mobile Radio. This device will allow you to talk from the HT1250 portable into the Pyramid Repeater. The Pyramid Repeater will then take thew incoming traffic and re-route it out through the CDM1250 radio. This should solve your coverage issues. As long as the CDM1250 can access the repeater, you should have no problem.

tcash - to answer your question - no. Your CDM mobiles lack dual antenna connectors for putting the xmitter and rcvr into a duplexer. You could look at dual radio setups much like the GR series repeaters. But, you would lack any scene priortization, and interference will happen if more than one repeater is activated. It is better to look a the Pyramid system as mentioned already. If you attempt to stay in band, expect local desense issues.

This is not going to be cheap.

In band options are not the easiest to work with where there are coverage problems.

A voice storage then forward would work in VERY limited applications. DO NOT USE THIS for public safety.

Public safety is one where you need a solid infrastructure to make communications work.
