Spectra Question

Hello All!

I am looking for a detailed diagram of the pin assignments for the Spectra T-connector. The large end, not the DB-25 end.

I have all the pins, housing and cable to make a T connector.

I was just looking for a diagram for the correct connections.

I am wanting to add an additional control head to a Spectra that has the siren option as well, and didn't want to wire something wrong and fry the radio or siren.

Any help would greatly be appreciated

Thanks

David

Having been well bred on the Spectra radio and still play with them, you have me confused with your question. What
are you calling the "T" connector? Normally when a second control head is connected to the Spectra, there are 2 of
the DB25 connectors on the front of the radio adapter. The left side one is the normal control head and the right side
one is used for the second control head.

You will also need the rear control head to make this work. They are not the same as the normal control head. The
wiring is not the same. Even the control cable used for the second head is not the same as the normal control cable
and head. The rear control heads almost look the same except they don't have a power on switch. There is a blank
plug un the hole where the power on switch would go. The internal head wiring is not the same.

My suggestion is for you to re think what your trying to do. Come back and ask your questions again. The rear
control cables and heads are available occasionally. If you get to the point where you think that this might be
a better route to take, I do have a new cable and head, no bracket or speaker, if it comes down to that.

Here's where to find the pinout on the connector, you can roll it from there by looking at a control cable for the rear head. I'm not 100% sure but didn't think you could enable the siren if you had a rear control head on it. I know you can dasy chain the siren and vrs units off each other but wasn't sure on control heads. I've used a standard front control head cable for a rear head in the past just making sure to tape up and secure the orange and green wires, everything worked fine. The only difference in the rear cable I can see is the lack of the orange and green wires. A cheaper but not motorola way is to do it at the db-25 connection point on the radio (2nd port) creating a splitter making sure all 25 pins are wired in. These can be bought or made, just gotta make sure it's a true splitter. This has worked for me in the past where I dropped a siren and vrs unit off the spectra and didn't have the shield to put em in one box and/or a t-cable to make it happen right.

All the wiring diagrams are here on Mike's Site which is awesome:

If he is going to use the rear control AND the siren, then the T connector makes sense.
But that wiring is different than the Syntor setup.

Will is absolutely correct. This T-cable:

http://www.onfreq.com/syntorx/spectra/c ... ml#x9k4304

is only used when daisy chaining from a VRS to a Siren/PA. The VRS connector is physically the same as an X9k connector which the T-cable fits into. The Spectra radio drawer uses a different DB-25 connector. To run from a Siren/PA to an A9 rear head you want a T-cable with a control head end more like this, except a rear head doesn't supply switched power to the radio drawer (the power switch is blocked in the on position). Sorry, I never got a Spectra read head manual and never found any rear head cable pin outs.

http://www.onfreq.com/syntorx/spectra/c ... #s9krdpins

The cable pin out examples you want for a home made Spectra DB-25 T-cable are these:

http://www.onfreq.com/syntorx/spectra/c ... ml#spa4363
http://www.onfreq.com/syntorx/spectra/b ... ml#spj6opt
http://www.onfreq.com/syntorx/spectra/c ... #s9krdpins

For just an A9 control head you want the extra/new T-cable control head connection to look like the Systems 9000 Radio Cable Pin Out.

J6 is the second DB-25 in the front of a remote mount radio drawer and a home made T-cable should work with this J5 connector:

http://www.onfreq.com/syntorx/spectra/b ... ml#spj5reg

but, not with this older J5 connector for a VRS or Siren/PA (no option or filtered audio connections):

http://www.onfreq.com/syntorx/spectra/b ... tml#sp6055

and not at all with the HHCH J5:
