MTX8250 - Same Charger for NiMH and NiCad Batteries?

We’ve been using the same battery chargers for the NiMH (HNN9010A) and the NiCad (HNN9011A) batteries. Should I be concerned about shortening the life of the batteries or cooking them? Any other consequences I should be aware of?

Many thanks!
Pat

Results in charging levels will vary by a slight but not really meaningful amount, and most of us consider the two types of battery to be chargeable in the same type charger. What you can NOT do is charge a lithium-ion battery in a nicad/NiMH charger. For that you need a Li-Ion charger or what we call a tri-chem charger that will do all three, such as the Motorola NTN8831A which is used on the XTS and Saber radios. (Model number cited is just for example.)

For my similar MTX9250 I use the Motorola HTN 9000B/C charger. Isn't this a tri chem charger, good for all 3 types of chemistries? Gary N4KVE

The HTN9000A/B/C state that they are TRI -Chem in the owners manual for the charger. I have used them with both NiMH and Lithium-Ion for a number of years.
