my money says Vertex Standard. I don't see Ma M putting much into the mid tier market anymore when they can just sell the vast product line of Vertex Standard mid-tier LMR stuff. Maybe Ma M can improve their support and service. IMO, everytime VS USA touches anything I've sent in, it gets worse than it was before. It took a FULL MONTH for them to FILL a simple parts order. Maybe Motorola can improve their business practices the Six Sigma way!

Well we plan a shoot out of sorts to determine what radios we are purchasing in the future. I've ordered 2 ea of MOTOTRBO and 2 ea Icoms. We are going to beat the S..T out of them and see what one survives. Icom's 3 year warranty right out of the box may be the reason to go with them. The Vertex line I understand will now come with MOTOTRBO as an option for digital operation. Still not convinced that digital is the way to go yet, the Vocoders still need some work to deal with background noises.

Here is the low down on the list that was posted:

MTX series 900Mhz - Gone completely only replacements are XTS and Turbo 6580, 6380

CDM750 - These were the high split UHF models ONLY the low split 403 to 450ish models are still available.

CDM1550 - The low band models being cancelled were replaced by the PM1200 like 2 years ago. (yes, a Vertex designed radio)

CDM1550 LS+ Databox option only - I don't even know what the option is but I do have a pretty good idea. This was replaced by features in the Turbo however it is a different system. Someone else may need to elaborate here.

Federal model EX and HT radios - The models being cancelled here are some addition VHF and some low split UHF models. I would guess low sales volumes here.

I would really hope the Big M doesn't let everything fall entirely to Vertex. We use their radios on our FD for the Fireground and to say the least they are weak, weak radios that should be sold in Wal-Mart for $15. But, that's all we can afford, our problem. I would just hope other businesses and VFD's don't have to rely on the poor service and poorer radio.

The cancellations listed are actually very minor low volume products. The regular line of CDMs and HTs is probably going to be around for a little while longer, but since the MotoTrbo line is slowly resolving, and with the tooling changes happening ever so rapidly in the Orient, I would expect that end of life for the Professional series is rapidly approaching.

My only thought on the matter is they had better improve features and the quantity of buttons/functionality on the Trbos before they finally kill the Waris radios or there are going to be some very upset people, me included.

so whos doing better Icom or Moto. I know our department only uses Moto when all they need is Kenwood or Icom. I have an Icom F33g and hae been more than pleased with it, only thing I don't like is I wish the audio was louder when not at max.
