I have an XTS2500 and an XTL5000 with quite a few channels/frequencies. Is there any way to copy the programming over from the XTS2500 to the XTL5000? I don't really want to have to manually type everything in again.

If you read the radio your looking to pull the channels from, then start up another copy of the program and shrink
both windows some so you can see both of the radios, you should be able to click and left drag each of the zones,
scan and personalities your looking to copy.

You will have to go into the new radio and clean up some of the errors so that every body is happy. If you go
into the errors window, it will point you to the areas that have the glitches in. Then simply make all the
parameters match and you good to save it back to the new radio.

This is much easier than fat fingering in all the information. If your working with trunking systems, then your
going to have the systems key issue to work through with the radio systems manager for his permission.

So, should both radios be connected to the computer at the same time? Or just the one radio connected and then both CPS windows open?

No, you're copying between programs, not radios, and forget the word "cloning" because that's not what you're doing. Cloning means that you are copying one radio's program IN ITS ENTIRETY to another radio which is NOT what you're trying to do.

Leave whichever radio (if any) is connected to the program cable turned off until you're ready to either read from or write to the radio You don't need to have any radio connected for programming to drag and drop between codeplugs; you only need to have the codeplugs from two compatible radios read and loaded into your computer so you can split the screen and then drag and drop between the two setups.

After you've copied whatever you need to transfer from one radio to the other, go to the VIEW pulldown and see if there are any errors in the new setup. If the VIEW pull down is clear then go ahead and write the updated program to the radio.

Take a look at the "channel picklist" function. You can export lines from the zone/channel screen from one radio to a picklist, and then import them from the picklist to the second radio. You'll still have to program "conventional personalities" and then adjust them, and the feature is a bit kludgy in some respects, but it does same some typing (and "new error" introductions).
