Does anyone know if/when the APX will be released with UHF High (450-520 MHz)?

I just came back from the Andrews Joint Service Open House today and noticed that all Prince George county police and volunteer fire department units are using the APX7000. Their old analog system is in the UHF band (490) and the new system being built is in 700MHz. Would anyone has any knowledge on whether the APX7000 with UHF-R2/700MHz combination were released in advance for Prince George county?

Just curious, how does a volunteer dept. afford an APX?

I assume it has something to do with them being smack in the middle of the sea of Federal $ $ ?

I believe your second statement has a lot to do in supporting the first statement.

1. Prince Georges County Fire & EMS is not a volunteer department. It is an extremely large combination department adjacent to Washington, DC.
2. The PG County APXs are V/7/8 not U/7/8.
3. PGPD is in the middle of cutting over to 700MHz, and they have patches to their old 490 channels. PGFD is not using 700MHz for day to day operations at this time, only for special events until later this year.

I stand corrected, looking at the picture that I took it looked like Springfield Fire and Rescue from Virginia..

resqguy911, I was listening to PGPD Saturday and noticed they use the APXs while at Fedex field, their analog audio in 490 sounds "AGC processed" which makes me think they are using the new radios, plus the next day all the officers I saw has APXs...so that means they are transmitting on 700 but audio is patched through 490?

I'm still pissed that I haven't gotten my Unity, although they've started to relaease them to larger agencies and dealers... Yet; Harris contines to call me about Motorola trunking protocols... My ass is chapped. Why do they care about a MTX8500, or getting their hands on one?

Holy huge pic batman! Yes, that is correct about the patching. Some units haven't been switched over yet, thus the difference in the audio. Let me tell you though, from 700 to 700 sounds fantastic.

I will be placing our order for 11 APX7500 VHF/UHF Mobiles in the next week or so. I have been told that they will be available to order June 1st but they are 90 days out from the time of order.
