Squelch Issues MTS 2000

I have been programming my MTS 2000 and have mostly succeeded! I have set up 3 Zones with around 50 channels and have set up 3 scans also. The only trouble I'm having is setting up the correct squelch parameters. I have 2 kinds of conventional services programmed; 2 Meter Ham repeaters with PL's, and public service receive-only channels. I can transmit and receive on the 2 Meter channels and receive traffic on the PS freq's but I am having break-through squelch on almost every channel. I feel that I am at a loss to know how to program the Rx side of the radio. I have tried many different combos of "fine-tune" settings along with CSQ and PL squelch types to no avail. I have a UHF model being delivered today that should be in better shape. I'll see if I have the same issues when I program it.
BTW...Could a week battery have something to do with this? I have also read that an alignment may be needed. I have a Moto shop in town. What would be a fair price for that service?
Any help would be appreciated.

You need to set your squelch adjustments in the TUNER section for all channel spacings, then once all of this is done and you are entering channel data, there is an area in the TX settings for every channel that allows you to fine tune individual channel squelch settings.
Most are defaulted to a low(1) value, or blank.
Change them to a higher value and reprogram and test what setting/s works best, while allowing weak signals to be received.
There is nothing wrong with the radio, only the squelch settings are misadjusted for the channels you are programmed on.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm a bit confused about the "tuner section". Is that in the CPS or are you talking about the CPS Tuner application? Also, I found the fine tune in the Rx tab, not the Tx tab. I have adjusted that all the way to 31 (max) and the squelch still breaks through.

Tuner CPS not required at this stage....yet.
The squelch fine tuning is in the channel data section, where you enter frequencies.
You have: basic, RX and then TX options.
The RX option is where you will find the squech fine tune check box.
Tuner is for adjusting the radio's RF components, VCO crossover, TX power and all squelch settings(rough) for 12.5, 20 and 25kHz. channel spacings.
There are more adjustments, but you get the idea here.

OK, Thats what I thought. But I have been told that without the right test equipment (which I dint Have) trying to use the Tuner is a "shot in the dark" and cant be done reliably. I wouldn't even know where to start!
I have read the radio with the tuner software and "looked around" but nothing more than that. Do you have any direction to using the tuner?

Using the Tuner32 or Global tuner requires a stable RF signal, tone generator and wattmeter, along with deviation and Sinad testing capabilities......In other words; a service monitor.
NEVER attempt to align or change any settings in the software and write to the radio!
Doing modified writes without proper level adjustments will cause all sorts of problems for your radio, you, and others.
