HT1000 issue

Hey Guys,

Have the following issue with an HT1000. When i turn it on, i receive proper power up tone and radio tx's and rx's perfect. But after being powered on for approx. 10mins the radio emits a tones just like its on a wrong channel. After that, no tx or rx. This happens if you are using the radio or just have it sitting powered on. Within this 10min period the radio does not transmit on its own, and the channel selector works to change the radio's channels.

If you let the radio sit powered down for 1-2hours, it will again power on properly, but you only get 10mins of proper service from it.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the synthesizer going out of lock. I would suspect the 16.8 MHz reference oscillator on the RF board drifting with temperature. If you have a Jedi break-out service kit, you could put some heat on it & see if the problem occurs within 20-30 seconds or so. If not, you could try refridgerating the radio overnight & see if it takes a lot longer to occur after power up.

Or it may not be temperature related & simply be a component that breaks down after being energized for a brief period of time.

I threw the radio in the freezer over night and powered it on. It has now exceeded 30mins of normal operation.
