I purchased this cable in an attempt to program cm300's and pm400's.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Ribless-Programming ... 1c0fd76963

I used a panasonic toughbook cf-72 running xp

used cps r05.12.00

on com port 1, i got error #512.

changed to the other com ports, got error #768.

I then used a desktop also running xp.

only com port available in the desktop is com port 1, i got error #512.

I opened up the serial connector to find that there are only three of the four leads were soldered to the circuit board.

I contacted the seller and got a replacement cable sent.

The second cable did the same on both computers. I opened up the serial connector and again found only three of the four leads soldered into the circuit board. Could this type of cable program the radio with only three leads?

The three leads terminate in the RJ45 connector at pins 4,5, and 7. Pin 4 goes to the circuit board labeled ground. Pin 5 goes to the circuit board labeled data. Pin 7 goes to the circuit board labeled data.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

I know many will suggest to use a rib box, but i had success programming several HT1000's with a ribless cable.

There is a current thread you will want to examine carefully as I think it contains the answers to your questions:

Thank you Tom, I read that topic top to bottom until my eyes bled. I get confused easily sometimes, and i am sure i upset people who know this stuff upside down and backwards.

I tried posting my question into the topic, but the moderators suggested starting a new topic.

Do the pin outs on the aftermarket ribless cable match the standard rib cable i guess is what i am missing.
