XTS 5000 Scan Lists/ Scan Features

Hello,

I am new to the XTS radios. For years I have used the JT1000 and loved it mainly for the FPP option, I recently upgraded to an XTS 5000 model III with FPP and I love the radio it works great except that I have no way to scan channels like I did with my Jt1000. I do not have any scan features available or a way to create a scan list on this radio from the front panel or side buttons. Is this something that can be added or set up with CPS or am I just waisting my time and money?

I am not looking to use the radio as just a scanner, I use this radio on the job and at times need the ability to scan certain channels. I am not even looking to scan channels in different zones, the channels I mainly use are all in one zone.

Any help or assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.

On the FPP XTS5000 there is no scanlist control or setup via the FPP. You must go into the CPS and assign every personality you wish to scan to a scan list (15 channels per list) and then you have to compose a scan list under the scan section of the CPS main listing. You can do a lot of things with the FPP but scan functions are not one of them. Also when you're setting up your scan functions don't forget to assign a control button or switch to turn the scan on and off, as well as a nuisance delete button.

Not to veer too far off topic, but what else can't be done through FPP? Is creating scanlists the only thing you have to do with CPS? Basic frequency settings like duplex, PL/CTCSS/NAC, saving memory channels, etc, can be all done through FPP?

FPP pretty much just allows you to edit things you've already created via CPS programming. You can't create additional channels, scan lists, anything. You can just edit them

You can edit a scan list and priority channels, MDC Call lists, Phone numbers.

You can edit TX and RX frequency, PL, bandwidth, digital/analog, channel name and zone name (if applicable).

I wouldn't say it's necessarily too limited or a waste of space, I've got some zones defined as "FPP Zones" for on-the-fly programming of channels I may need down the road. The thing with scan in an FPP enabled zone is that it should already be pre setup so that every channel in the zone is assigned a scan list. You can go cross-zone with it, but you can't change the scan list for that personality. Anything past the first 15 (or 16?) zones of FPP you can do whatever with- all assuming this is a post F/W 9 radio.

I've found through experience and frustration that the "smart" thing to do is to set up a scan list even for zones that you're not using, like when you get up to 12, 13, etc. That way when you DO put something in those zones via FPP you can scan them immediately by hitting the scan switch and you're saved all the trouble of setting up the CPS for reprogramming to add a scan list.
