Radius M214 with DB25 connector.

I'm new to working with Motorola radios and I have a question...

I have two Radius M214s, one has a normal control head and one has a DB-25 connector where the control head would be.

What is this for?

Thanks

It sounds like what you have is the radio end of a remote mount setup. Missing the control head and connecting 25-pin cable.

Does the front with the DB25 connector have a Motorola label on it or an 8-pin RJ45 connector next to the DB25?

There is no label on the front of it. There's a two pin Molex type connector to the left of the DB-25.

Sounds more like an MTVA power amplifier.

Sounds to me a remote head kit by QM. Not sure if they make it anymore. Should be metal in nature, 2 pin molex plug for speaker audio, then the 25 pin female for control head. Just pop off the metal one and install a new head.

That is definitely a remote mount setup from Quickmount. Easy to convert back if you have a head for it.

I have heard of that kit before but not seen the entire thing. Does it use a round cable? I was not a big fan of the GM300 OEM remote mount kit's flat cable.

It uses a regular old DB-25 cable. I changed mine out with a 3-footer from Radio Shack for an under-seat mount. Zip-cord --er, sorry, Spectra-style dual-conductor audio cable -- for the speaker. There was a QM-2 dual-head version as well.

I can put up some pics later if anyone wants to see. I've never seen the Motorola version, but they must be pretty much the same.
