I have always wanted this handheld control head. Now I have one. Problem is, I'm not sure which radios I can hook it to.

1 - Search feature appears to be down for me.
2 - googling doesn't really answer the question for me.
3 - Yeah I know. Cart<>horse. I get it.


Thing is, for this application, I am not concerned for the particular operating characteristics of the radio, as much as I am getting my new toy to work.


SO, what radios can I glom this onto?

I understand that it won't work with any of the XTVA's, because they don't pass SB9600 data? Is that correct?

I also read that Motorola_Otaku was able to make it sorta work with the MCS2000 series.

Appreciate the positive responses, as always.

PS - I am pretty bad for taking stuff apart. If it helps, and anyone can tell me how to do it without grrring it up badly, be happy to crack it and snap a few....

That mic works with the Astro Spectra radio. Depending on how the radio was set up, you might have some interface issues. It will require that you hack the radio to tell it that it has a different control head.

It works with a W3 Astro Spectra, period. Plugging it into the front of a MCS2000 was kind of a "stupid trick" thing; neat at the time and good to know, but not particularly useful for anything.

If you have an Astro Spectra and want to make it work with that head, you need:
-a W3 front panel interconnect. I don't recall the part number off the top of my head.. maybe KB9KST will chime in.
-a W3 s-record or codeplug, forced in with the usual methods.
-if the radio is 110W, you will obviously need the remote Y-cable, which again is a unique part. Mid- and low-power is optional; you can use it with the Y-cable or plug it in directly to the left-side DB25 and use the DB15 on the rear for speaker and ignition sense.

No, it will not work with an XTVA. For that you need a PLN7737, which is different in ways we haven't documented yet. No, it won't work with an Astro Saber AVA either; see here: http://batboard.batlabs.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=88557
