flashcode question

can you flash an XTS3000 800mhz with out messing with the trunking data? I'm looking at modding my mod I to a mod II or III, but I would not be able to have the radio reprogrammed again. I was able to secure programming from my county some time ago, but with the new system admin, he does not allow new "private" radios on the system. Essentially everyone was grandfathered in. I'll ride that free pony as long as I can!

The reason I ask is that I bought an XTVA with a HHCH because I have a VHF mod II for work, and the HHCH display works on the XTVA works great for the VHF portable, but not the 800. If the 8000mhz can be flashed without modding the radio, that would be cool too.

Any thoughts?

You can do a firmware update without disturbing any of the programmed data, except for the secure module. If you update the firmware in the secure board you will loose the encryption key. If your trying to hack the radio to change the model then yes you will loose the data, but you might be able to recover it with a CPS drag and drop as long as you have the system key.

There might be more from others, but this will get you started.

When you upgrade to a type 2 or 3, you will then have to program all the names for the subfleets, & zones, plus all the menu icons that were not in the original type 1 radio. Right? GARY N4KVE

thanks guys or gals, I guess I'll stick with what I've got. I knew I should have gone for the mod 2 the first go around....
