CPS & USB

Post by laxplurr06 »

I am planning on buying a programming cable for my CDM1250. I see some USB cables on eBay, but I am not sure if my CPS R06.04.00 will support this, or if they work well. Should I stick to the serial port rib-less or try USB?

NO version of the cps supports usb, it takes a 3rd party driver and motorola never made such a cable and saving a couple bucks on a cable isn't worth having to replace a bricked radio. either get a real rib and cable or the serial ribless cable and you'll be set. and your cps is very ancient by several years and should be updated, it's possible that it won't even read your radio depending on it's firmware?

I was afraid of getting a bricked radio. I will get the serial cable instead. The software works fine for what I do. I don't need to upgrade just yet. Thanks for the advice.

Well, not so fast... Around R06.10(?) Moto added a feature to the CPS where it will be able to recover most EEPRM CS ERRORs, which previously would have required depot service. It may be worth upgrading for that reason alone...
The bandsplit is only a suggestion.
