Trunk scanning AND conventional scanning

Hi Folks,
We are using a bunch of XTS2500I's. There is a new trunking system in the area which
some of the law enforcement folks are now using (a lot less range than their 'old' analog
system).
Anyhow, we as FD/EMS also have channels that we can use. It would be nice to be able
to scan both the trunk channels, and our standard analog channels.
From what I've seen, it can't be done on the 2500. Does Mot make a radio that can have
both types of systems in a scan list?
Thanks,
Tim

XTS can do that, look at CPS scan options more attentively.

Hi Motofan,
I'm looking in the 'scan configuration' selection,
and there are two different tabs - one for conventional,
& one for trunking, but don't see anything that would lead
me to believe it'll do both at the same time.
Is it somewhere else?
The conventional channels I want to scan are analog, not P25.
Thanks,
Tim

Check 'Scan Type'.

Set the scan type to "Talkgroup Scan". That will allow you to put conventional & trunking personalities in the scan list. Keep in mind, when using Talkgroup Scan, you won't be able to assign a priority channel..

Thanks Mfire...
We have programmed up the zones so that the ABC switch will select
two conventional zones, and one trunking zone.
If I am in an analog zone, can I insert a trunking channel into that scan
list, or do I have to be in a trunking zone and add analog channels to
that list?

Marc,
Is there any way to speed up the scan rate? Sometimes it takes up to
3 or 4 seconds for it to recognize a conventional carrier on channel &
stop. Totally unusable.
Thanks,
Tim

First off, is the trunk a 3600-baud 4.1 Smartzone system or a 9600-baud 7.x Astro25 system?
The delay you're encountering is coming from the time the radio is parked on the trunk's control channel. Go into Scan Configuration, look for an option called "Control Channel Hang Time" or something similar, and dial it back to 1 second. What I'm afraid you're also encountering is that the radio is affiliating and deaffiliating from the trunk every time it scans across the control channel which will add additional delay time. Being that you're using XTS2500s you can't turn auto-affiliate off so there's pretty much nothing you can do about it. On top of that, the trunk system admin might not appreciate the umpteen-gajillion affiliate and deaffiliate requests coming from the radios set up this way.
Going back to your zone/scan list question, as long as the trunk and conventional channels are all set to the same scan list you can select channels from any zone and scan them from any channel in any zone. If you have multiple scan lists, you can still select any channel in the radio but you will only scan what's been added to the scan list that the channel you're parked on is programmed for. Clear as mud?
